Researchers have discovered that drinking several cups of coffee each day can help protect the liver. Several previous studies have shown that caffeinated coffee has protective effects against nonalcoholic fatty liver disease, hepatocellular carcinoma, and cirrhosis. However, the benefits of coffee are not equal and the amount you drink each day should be determined by your own situation. For optimal liver health, drink no more than four to five cups a day.

One study found that drinking coffee reduced the risk of developing chronic liver disease, hepatocellular carcinoma, and mortality from liver disease. The study found that coffee could help prevent liver disease in the early stages, and may even slow the progression of the disease.
