Fatty Liver Diet

One of the major ways to treat the fatty liver condition is through diet. As the name implies, fatty liver diet is a diet that limits the amount of fatty liver cells in the body. In a normal body, the liver produces bile which, together with bilirubin, helps to break down fats ingested. When there are too many bilirubin producing cells, fatty liver develops. Fatty liver can be caused by fatty foods, alcohol and drugs.

A fatty liver diet usually restricts fatty liver cells by reducing or eliminating certain foods from the diet. For example, you might limit fatty liver diet to eliminate fatty liver, drugs, alcohol, and vitamin E. Since the liver is directly linked to fat production, reducing its activity can actually reduce body fat production. Alcohol abuse can also lead to liver failure and fatty liver. Some alcohol-induced complications include cirrhosis and hepatitis. When liver cells begin to overproduce, inflammation occurs. Taking drugs that cause inflammation can result in fatty liver, heart disease, or inflammation of other organs.

Omega-3 fatty acids may provide benefits to the liver. Fish that contain high levels of omega-3 fatty acids include salmon, herring, sardines and mackerel. Other foods that are rich in omega-3 fatty acids include nuts, seeds and peanut butter. Aside from fatty acids, plant sterols may also provide benefits to liver health. Plant sterols, found in teas and other natural dietary supplements, may prevent inflammation. Some plant sterols, called phytosterols, can also serve as a powerful antioxidant.

Coffee may also serve as a beverage that provides health benefits to the liver. Coffee contains high concentrations of antioxidants and it also contains theaflavins and thearubiegens. These antioxidants are known to destroy micro-organisms that can cause liver damage. So drinking coffee without the preparation of hot milk may provide benefits to the same end. Drinking coffee without the addition of milk may provide caffeine only.

To maintain good nutrition and to avoid fatty liver disease, people who are overweight should make sure that they have a regular intake of nutrients. Health experts advise that overweight people should first make an assessment of their current weight and consult a nutritionist before they embark on any weight loss plan. A nutritionist will then help them determine their ideal weight. This assessment will help the person to determine whether they need to incorporate some lifestyle changes in order to lose weight. Alcohol is also a substance that should be avoided with fatty liver. People who drink too much alcohol are prone to also developing cirrhosis. This condition is a serious disease that involves the rupture and leakage of the fatty tissue that surrounds the liver. Excessive consumption of alcohol is strongly associated with the development of fatty liver.
