Training Puppies

Training puppies for obedience requires patience and consistency. This is because puppies have a short attention span. They can work with you for a few minutes and then move on to something else. If you try to push past their attention span too quickly, your puppy will soon get frustrated and stop listening to you. Luckily, there are ways to make the training process much easier.

First of all, it is important to choose an environment that your puppy is comfortable in. Ideally, this is in an area that is calm and free of distractions. This will prepare your puppy for training in more unfamiliar environments. Using a quiet spot allows your puppy to focus on you. If you use a noisy place, this will distract your puppy.

The next step is to teach your pup that indoors are not for running around the house or attacking the vacuum cleaner. Instead, teach your puppy to be gentle with people and with food. Never let your puppy chew things or mouth people. It is imperative to teach this behavior through positive reinforcement and correction. A puppy should be able to understand when he or she has been punished. You can also give your puppy praise when it cries, but avoid rewarding the behavior that you dislike.

Another way to make training your puppy easier is to create a consistent routine. Ideally, you should practice the same routine every day, with the same words and actions.
