They were the sons of George and Delia Haddy. Sam came to the United States at age 5. He owned and operated the well-known "Sammy's" Lounge for 30 years. He was a longtime member of St. George Orthodox Church and Elks Club.

She was employed as a research assistant for the Department of Preventive Medicine, State Cancer Registry of Iowa, from 1977 until her retirement in 1985.
